This War of Mine is a sobering survival sim where players take on the role of a group of civilians trying to survive a city under siege in a war-torn link alternatif rakyat62 wasteland. Frostpunk and its follow-up, Frostpunk 2, are set in a harsh winter post-apocalypse where you are tasked with leading a city through a cascade of calamities. When it comes to polished, fast-paced platformers, few titles can hold a candle to Sonic X Shadow Generations. The game curates and improves on some of the best levels in Sonic history, while also giving us fresh Shadow levels that highlight his unique abilities. Get ready to feel the thrill of unlocking the Chaos Dash and the joy of flying across levels with Shadow’s Doom Wings. Shadow’s campaign also offers five additional hours of gameplay, which, when paired with the graphical and performance improvements from the Switch 2, make this an absolute steal.
2024 was another banner year for video games thanks to a slate of big releases, strong remakes, and surprising hits. But despite plenty of games that made a splash, IGN awarded only one new game a perfect score of 10, and some argue that it’s not even a ‘proper’ game. We enthusiastically recommend that you add these games to your to-play list.
If, like me, you’ve always been hesitant to give Oblivion a go, this remaster is the perfect package, modernizing the gameplay just enough to bring it up to par with its contemporaries. Guild Quests are particularly brilliant, with The Dark Brotherhood being a real standout. Now, you can experience Cyrodiil recreated anew, with all of the quirks and charms that made the original so iconic over the years.

Arrowhead Game Studios’ fun and hilarious shooter was the big breakout hit of the year, quickly enlisting millions of new recruits for its galactic space war. Even though it stumbled with some recent updates, it remains a massively popular game and PlayStation’s big live-service win of the year. Finally, Square Enix released another RPG remake with the gorgeous Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, which reimagines the iconic JRPG in pixelated HD. Despite the gap between big releases, anyone who is a fan of 100-plus hour RPGs ate incredibly well this year.
If you’ve played any of the Souls series, this is the one that started it all, and you’ll no doubt recognize many of the systems that have now become a standard of the genre. The world of Elden Ring is rich with lore and the story Shadow of the Erdtree tells adds new layers to that rich text. The backstories for characters like Queen Marika and Miquella are both enlightening and tragic, and the sense of discovery players get when uncovering these secrets prove that nobody does world design quite like FromSoftware. After playing This War of Mine and both Frostpunk games, to me, developer 11 Bit Studios feels most at home at the end of the world. The Alters continues this trend, but approaches it from a fresh angle.
Is Cronos: The New Dawn The Future Of Horror Gaming?
Donkey Kong will thankfully rectify that next month but it’s meant I haven’t spent as much time on my Switch 2 as I expected. Still, boasting ambition, narrative stakes, and heart that few other RPGs of the time can muster, Suikoden burns bright in its origins and comes recommended if you didn’t play the Switch 1 version. For newcomers to the series or those who missed its original release, there’s plenty of fun to be had here. For fans who already have the original version on Switch, we struggle to think of a greater waste of Switch 2 gaming funds than this. Under no circumstances is Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S a bad game — in fact, it’s a pretty darn decent game that’s filled to the brim with modes and features to tide puzzle lovers over for the long haul. However, that has everything to do with the solid skeleton of the original Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 and barely anything to do with the minimal additions made to this Switch 2 re-release.
I happen to like Euro-Jank story presentation so I like how it’s told. But some who are more used to how Japanese and American developers present their stories might find it more obtuse than it needs to be. As for the Euro Jank gameplay… Stalker taught me a long time ago how to put up with it.
Back in 2015, Xenoblade Chronicles X was a huge RPG that strayed away from the usual formula of the series. This Definitive Edition cleans up some of its shortcomings and lets a new generation of players experience it for the first time. Inspired by old-school RTS games, Tempest Rising has its own unique style that manages to shine through all the nostalgia and comparisons to classics of the genre. Sunderfolk, the latest game from Dreamhaven and Secret Door, is a tabletop RPG where your phone is the controller and your screen is the TV. It’s one of the most fun multiplayer experiences I’ve had in years. While its first few hours show real promise, The Precinct quickly bogs down in repetition, lackluster storytelling, and frustrating design choices that make law enforcement feel more like a chore than a calling.
